Horsetail alert!

Now is the time of year when horsetail shoots first emerge from the ground. While the fully grown horsetail plant might be familiar to most people, not all gardeners may recognise the younger horsetail shoots.

It is important to get on top of a horsetail infestation when it is small as this pernicious weed can be difficult to control when it is larger and spread. Thus we are showing this photo of a newly emerged horsetail shoot pushing its way through the grass. Hoeing and digging out the shoots has been shown to be the best method of controlling horsetail.
