Pests and diseases

Fruit and vegetables are often prone to attack by pests and diseases, many of which only attack certain species of vegetable or fruit. Others such as slugs a snails attack most plants, especially in the early seedling stage.  There also pernicious weeds which take over a plot if not curtailed.
