New kitchen/shelter for Community Garden

The Golden Hill Community Garden is planning to build a shelter so that all the volunteers can fit in when the weather is bad, along with with a better-equipped kitchen. This will be built on an unused part of the site which is not suitable for cultivation, near the exiting Community Garden area.

They had already raised a considerable sum of money from grant applications, but were short of £6000, so they launched a crowdfunder. Amazingly, the crowdfunder hit the target and went beyond it!

Lucy, who worked hard with the volunteers to establish the crowdfunder, said she was chuffed and deeply grateful and a bit misty eyed!

Now the hard work begins of getting the work done. A few days ago there was a hive of activity in the community garden where over 30 volunteers started shifting everything from the area where the new shelter and kitchen are to be located.

The next stage will involve contractors doing the groundwork and installing the structural frame for the building. Watch this space!
