Growing flowers for a wedding
One of our Birchall Road plotholders, Caroline, has spent the last 6 months growing flowers for her son’s wedding in July. The theme was Alice in Wonderland. This is her second year at Birchall site and she mainly grew annual, “cut and come again” flowers as well as Dahlias. It was definitely a challenging year to take on the project from a wet and slow start to a very dry June and July. She had support from a couple of other allotmenteers, with some extra space and some extra flowers- so thanks to them!
Caroline’s flowers were supplemented by her daughter’s grown in her Totnes garden. so it was definitely as family event. The day itself was very hot but the hotel offered an air-conditioned room which meant the flowers could be kept in top condition.
The photos show the flowers in situ in the plot, on the wedding table,on the cake and in the bride’s bouquet. They were able to do bouquets, buttonholes, table arrangements, vases and the cake with home grown, seasonal and chemical free flowers. What an outcome! The flowers were beautiful and the bride was overjoyed with them..
Caroline also made the cake – and that is another different story
