Rats on allotments

“In  a city you are never more than 6 feet away from a rat”. This is the widespread belief. However, research at the Food and Environment Research Agency found you’re more likely to be at most about 50 metres away from a rat in urban areas.

At our allotments it is quite rare to actually see a rat, but often you can spot evidence that one has been around, such as holes in the compost pile.

A tenant at Birchall Road has recently found evidence of a rat living in his shed, which is not a pleasant thought.
